Quoin Rock Wine Estate
Always wanted to visit the most idyllic vineyards in the world? The Quoin Rock Wine Estate might just be your dream destination. Architect Dr Yuliya Gaiduk transformed the South African winery and its adjacent warehouse into the new airy Venue Hall. Reynaers Aluminium windows and sliding systems make large glass panes possible and help blend the surrounding landscape with the estate’s interior spaces perfectly.
The large former warehouse of Quoin Rock has been renovated to become the Venue Hall, a spacious room that can host up to 200 guests. To bring in as much natural light as possible, the architect and fabricator agreed to replace the original brick walls with lofty glass panes. Take in the view and see how the wide frames draw in the Stellenbosch nature in an instant.
Indoor elegance meets outdoor beauty
The renovated Quoin Rock estate is both luxurious and in touch with its beautiful surroundings. Ceiling motifs, for example, remind you of vine leaves in the summer winds. Next, the new main entrance includes patterns related to local elements such as water, the vineyards, and the mountain ranges. You could even say the rusted metal frames of the buildings share the same colour as the red soil they are built on.
Indeed, bringing the landscape inside is one of the transformation’s most dramatic results. Architect Dr Yuliya Gaiduk clarifies: “To emphasise the connection to the surrounding nature, we decided to replace the existing brick walls with large aluminium-framed windows. This really brings in the light and the landscape around us.”
Aluminium systems: a view to behold
The spectacular floor-to-ceiling view is the real selling point of the Venue Hall, and Reynaers Aluminium ConceptFolding 77 solutions and ConceptSystem 68 windows showed to be the perfect match. Their strength and robustness made it possible to take the massive glass surfaces to new heights. As an added bonus, the expansive glazing does not only reflect the surrounding landscape, but the sky above is now visible as well. Nature comes to life as visitors enjoy an impressive 360-degree view.
We decided to complement our surrounding nature, we decided to open the existing walls to bring the landscape into the interior.
Collaboration of Architect and Manufacturer
Drawing landscape into interior spaces is certainly one of the most dramatic elements of this transformation. The spectacular floor to ceiling aluminium system within the Venue Hall comes as a result of a collaboration between Architect, Reynaers Aluminium and JBC Aluminium Company. The official representative of the region for Reynaers Aluminium, JBC Aluminium had a longstanding relationship project manager Stephan Swanepoel, having worked together on previous projects. All parties worked together in a strong trust relationship to ensure a high-quality product was delivered.
